Description
Bannerman Castle is an abandoned military depot located on Pollepel Island in the Hudson River, 50 miles north of New York City. Francis Bannerman was the first great dealer of used military gear. He warehoused his goods in Brooklyn, until city officials requested his departure, fearful of the consequences of storing a large supply of explosive material in the middle of a metropolis. In 1901 Bannerman relocated to Pollepel Island, building a series of fanciful castles as warehouses. Twenty years later the city was proven prescience, when a huge explosion destroyed most of the complex.
