Description
Colorized photo from 1942
Original Title: Mr. Pennepacker, one of seven barbers in town
Location: Lilitz, PA
What made this hard was all the black the chair, pants, shoes, sock chair etc had. I had to figure out where the divide areas were. Couple that with that odd lighting they chose. In the original you can see a lighting rig in the mirror that lit his face. and another aimed at the ceiling (reflection in the door), for the rest of it.
Then choosing the colors, I went with a 1930-40 style color. Which happen to be ugly tones of turquoise, green, orange etc, I went with retro green and turquoise, it adds a bit of pop and it helps flavor the piece.
The original colors might have been white for almost everything, but it was really hard to tell due to the crazy lighting. And I don't like making everything white. I still don't know why he is wearing surgical clothes, maybe he expects a lot of blood.
