ritual
despite curtained window
shuttered blinds
at its current angle the morning sun
hits my eyes like a fireball
six hours or three
it is no respecter of time slept
whatever the span
i wake to the same situation
bed bloody
gritty
with pieces of me scattered like crumbs
left over from a feast of freaks
it's getting old
this having to reassemble myself
into a coherent being to face the day
pasting parts together with spit and tears
every piece quivering with anxiety and dread
perhaps some morning
i will lie bedbound in this stone coffin
too broken to accomplish even this

Fabulous story today. Full of sadness and near desperation. The painting is of a gorgeous, long past architecture we don't see much any more. Splendid offerings today. :o)

Love this window. I must admit that I have never seen a window anything like this. Beautiful as can be. FAV!
RC DeWinter replied:
Ah, NYC and other major architectural centers are full of them. I am glad these wonderful old buildings have been preserved. Thanks much.

I always keep rooting for this heroine who appears in such unlikely but deeply interesting architectural and pastoral places, or cliffside at the beaches of the world. She's going to find love and you're going to write about it. !!! In the meantime, Wow!
RC DeWinter replied:
:-) 'Tis a consummation devoutly to be wished, Nancy. thank you. Here I was actually summoning Vincent in the painting and writing.

This is wonderful Gina! I love the colors and the subtle underlying patterns of brushwork, and the pov and atmosphere are beautiful. And your poem is so powerful. Wow. The despair is tangible. And the images it provokes, well wow. Brilliant work! l/f!

Very nice choice of color and treatment. The architectural details really stand out. Love the contrast between shadows and light, too! Applause, RC!! lfP

So terrific RC. Many years ago I lived in a building like this -- a NYC landmark -- 45 East 66 st (Madison Ave.). I was too dumb back then to appreciate the beauty of it all. L/F
RC DeWinter replied:
I used to live in NY too, Bill, but never in a building this architecturally significant. Thanks for your kind visit.
