A barred owl taken with the Nikon D40x and the 18-200 vr Nikon lens at the Lathrop E Smith Nature Center in Olney Maryland. Textures added in Photoshop.

What a sweetie, Lois. Meeting an owl is a life event. I've only been near two or three in their habitat, but we hear them at night hooting in the ancient oaks of our neighborhood. This is a wonderful portrait! F/L

So so true, Nancy!!! I used to "talk" to them at night at our old house, and here, too, before all the houses got built up. They would answer me, too!! Never got a decent shot "in the wild" as you say ... probably because i'd get so excited I couldn't hold the camera still!!
