very nicely done. I'm assuming Civil War? I noticed you said you are a history buff. I just finished this book...have you read it? http://www.amazon.com/My-Thoughts-Be-Bloody-Assassination/dp/1416586067 it's excellent, at least I think so, but I am not a history expert! it's very well written and you can't put it down! oh...V by the way

Cheryl Hardt Art replied:

Hi, Joan, I haven't heard of this book but it does look interesting! Yes, this is a Civil War site. It is Lookout Mtn in Chattanooga, TN (also in GA). The Union needed to take Chattanooga because it was a rail hub (still is). It was also the first city in a chain of cities that the Union wanted to take to break the South. So they took Chattanooga (after this battle), then Chickamauga a few miles south, then the Battle of Atlanta, Sherman's March to the Sea and finally Savannah which was NOT burned because it was Christmas Day.

Cheryl Hardt Art replied:

Chickamauga was not a city, but it was a big battle and I would be remiss if I didn't mention it.

Melly, thank you so much for your kind words and your support. All the best!

This is beautiful captured Cheryl. Like the color choice. f&V

Great misty capture of this historical spot and especially with the overcast and muted view of the distance. Great capture. Thanks much for sharing! Great description too, Cheryl!

Cheryl Hardt Art replied:

Randy, thank you so much for your kind words. It helps that a place like Lookout Mtn is so unusual and in ways so unchanged from it's historical past that you can really immerse yourself in the history. Unlike other battlefields, this one took place on the side of a very steep mtn, so (I don't think) there was ever much there. Plus, monuments were erected in this location and down the side of the mtn after the civil war by the various armies/companies involved--which probably discouraged construction, etc.

Thanks Theresa!

Great b&w, Cheryl - especially with the fog. f/v ;-)

Debi, thank you so much for the FEATURE in "Tennessee Treasures"--much appreciated!

Thanks Pam! This is about 2 hours from me so I've been many times...but I still love it.

Adams Art, thanks for the FEATURE in the group "Black and White". It's very much appreciated!

Thank you Heidi, I appreciate your support!

Average Rating (5 Stars):

I live near this scene. I have received many compliments on my phone case. You will probably be getting lots of orders.

September 22nd, 2018

The image on my iPhone case is beautiful, but there are white borders on both sides, so it looks cheap. Excellent artwork, poorly executed transfer onto phone case. I was told that the borders are a part of the file, but the borders didn't show online when I created my order. Very dissatisfied with execution and follow up from Fineartamerica

This was a gift for my sister as she has a moose collection. She loved it!

My wife just loves it, was for her phone.

Beautiful artwork is an understatement; makes the coolest phone case ever!

The material & workmanship is excellent.

Artist's Description

I love this photo. I'm a history buff and I'd been to this spot probably 5 times before --- always on a perfectly sunny day. That made it difficult to understand the history of the Battle Above the Clouds. However, as you can see from this shot in 2009, that day the clouds were sitting right at ground level at the top of the mountain. Chattanooga and the river were completely obscured. Sound was muffled and there was almost no one else around. It was really cool - actually, it was beyond cool. I wish I could do it again, but I'm sure I won't get the chance. I love this picture as much for the joy of that day as for the image. This image has been FEATURED in the following groups: * Tennessee Treasures * Black and White * Vintage Flavored Photos * National Parks of the United States of America * Black and White Art * Pin Me
