Description
Palouse Falls in Washington State is one of those treasured areas that has not been changed too much through time – there are no gift shops, food kiosks, or (too many) interpretive signs, and from various perspectives, one can see the falls in their full beauty and form.
This is one of these places that, if you arrive on a day when there aren’t a lot of tourists, and you visually block out the manicured lawn and picnic tables, you drink in the vista, and imagine what it was like many years ago, when the Indians of the area lived and walked the region.
Beholding Palouse Falls, the artwork, invites the viewer to step into this time and place, to settle for a moment before the falls and simply look. The air is filled with the sound of water cascading over the cliff; there is mist in the atmosphere from the spray; and it’s cool enough that a blanket feels warm and comforting. There is no cell phone to interrupt the moment, only Palouse Falls and you.
It is a time for nothing more than Beholding Palouse Falls – wondering, for a moment, at our sheer smallness as humans on this planet, and yet how we have been invited to join in with the life here; for marveling at the design and intricacy of the landscape; pondering the incredible power yet simplicity of something as ubiquitous as water – an element so common that we frequently take it for granted, yet so necessary for life that we would expire without it. (Isn’t that the way it is? The elements that are so common that we overlook them – water, air, sky, sunlight, love of family and friends – are eclipsed by our society’s constant message that money matters most. It is a battle to maintain wisdom and sanity.)
Strong, expressive brush strokes in the painting capture the sense of movement and feeling, and the two people before the falls blend into their landscape, silent and still before the concerto of the waterfall.

My husband and I are really wanting to get to the Palouse area! Yet another very nice work here, Steve.

Well worth the effort—especially during the spring season when Palouse Falls is at its fullest. Thank you.
