This painting is of the famous Bellingrath Gardens with a view overlooking Mirror Lake (a self-enclosed lake between the museum home and the Fowl River) - part of a stunning 65 acre garden estate open to the public year round in Theodore, Alabama, not far from Mobile. The painting is a representation done in multiple layers of digital acrylic paint in a slightly abstract style and is based on a public domain image.

HISTORY OF THE GARDENS
Bellingrath Gardens opened to the public in 1932. Previously known as "Belle Camp," this garden estate started out in 1917 as a rustic fishing camp for Walter Bellingrath who founded the Mobile Coca-Cola Bottling Company in 1903. An avid fisherman, Mr. Bellingrath had admired the riverfront property, situated along the Fowl River near Mobile, Alabama, but balked at the price. His physician in Mobile, Dr. Paul McGehee, convinced the frugal bottler that he needed to purchase the place for his health.
