Completed in 1859, Big Ben is the nickname for the Great Bell of the clock at the north end of the Palace of Westminster in London. While Big Ben is commonly referred to as the clock tower, it is officially known as Elizabeth Tower, renamed to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee of Elizabeth II in 2012.
The tower was raised as a part of Charles Barry's design for a new palace, after the old Palace of Westminster was largely destroyed by fire in 1834.
A British cultural icon, the tower stands at 315 feet (96.0 m) high and is one of the most prominent symbols of the United Kingdom. The bottom 200 feet (61.0 m) of the tower's structure consists of brickwork with sand-coloured Anston limestone cladding. The remainder of the tower's height is a framed spire of cast iron. The tower is founded on a 50 feet (15.2 m) square raft, made of 10 feet (3.0 m) thick concrete, at a depth of 13 feet (4.0 m) below ground level.
Welcome Friends and Thank You for visiting my page! My interest in photography began in 1980 when I enrolled in an introduction to photography course in college. I primarily enjoy shooting landscapes and seascapes along the Jersey Shore. My photography has been published in books, calendars, and multiple tourism magazines promoting the Jersey Shore, including cover shots for magazines and calendar publications. I've also had digital photographs displayed at venues such as the Wells Fargo Arena in Philadelphia promoting Ocean County Tourism and on the Jumbotron at Six Flags Great Adventure Theme Park.
