They say that if you work hard enough and long enough on something, you're bound to get lucky sooner or later. This was one such event. I was in California for a convention and decided to head north on Highway 1 after the convention. The sun was about to set when I took a sharp turn to the right around an escarpment. Emerging to my left was a once-in-a-lifetime scenic wonder. Everything had come together with perfect confluence- the lighting, the blooming foliage, the crashing waves, my angle of view. Exhilarated, I took the shot as quickly and carefully as I could with my Mamiya 645 and Gitzo tripod.
