Artist's Description
In Birmingham a small plant takes root in the cracked foundation of an old tower at Sloss furnace, vestige of the nineteenth century iron industry. Somewhere in time an unknown ironworker placed a metal band-aid over the crack. And so his hand, trying to mend the ruin, and the grace of creation, leave us a sign to steer by in Birmingham.
About Craig Gallaway
Craig Gallaway has been an artist all his life. He studied art and Christian formation at the University of Texas at Arlington (B.F.A. in painting, 1973); Regent College in Vancouver, B.C. (M.C.S. interdisciplinary studies in art history and theology, 1978); and Emory University (Ph.D. in theology and spiritual formation, 1988). Craig worked in the publishing industry in Nashville, TN (1988 to 1995, where he and his wife, Deborah, also played their original music in the songwriters circuit) and then as professor of art and spiritual formation at Samford University (1995 to 2004).
