The Red Wing Blackbird began dive bombing in circles, over the head or this largest-of-the-large Great Blue Herons. Eventually the big bird fled, and the little one persued. Seems to me that the Great Blue Heron could have just turned his head and swallowed the little one, or swatted it away or something.

Thank you Mary, and to think I have you and your group "Capturing the Great Blue Heron" for getting me to look at all my Heron files and to be back out there that morning. Realize I have seen a Great Blue Heron this size swallow a pan fish at least twice as big as that little Red Winged Blackbird. Big as I am, I would not go after the full-sized Great Blue in this picture. Paul.

Paul, Utterly amazing photos! You've captured the real life of a natural setting. Imagine that small red-winged blackbird having the nerve to attack the much larger great blue heron! I'm sure it was protecting its nest and young. Great sequence of photos!
