Description
Blood vessels of the thorax and abdomen. Artwork taken from a textbook by Joseph Maclise (ca. 1815- 1880), a British surgeon. Most of the organs of this male cadaver have been removed to reveal the aorta (centre), with the carotid and brachial arteries arising from the aortic arch. Below are the kidneys (brown) with adrenal glands (beige) above. The renal arteries supplying the kidneys can also be seen, along with the smaller arteries supplying the intestines. The sigmoid colon, part of the large intestine (white), is visible at lower right, and the bladder (white, rounded) at lower centre. The tenth rib and xiphoid bone (the protuberance at the base of the ribcage) have been left intact.
