These desert wildflowers do not bloom every year, as they are quite tempermental and require just the perfect conditions to bloom. In drought years, which can be frequent in the Southwest, there are few or no flowers at all. But heavy winter rains brought forth a kalaidoscopic carpet of wildflowers in the spring this year, a short lived display that fades after just a few short weeks. A 1986 graduate of Pasadena's Art Center College of Design, Johanna has 3 decades experience as a storyboard illustrator, portrait painter and art educator.
