This is a bit of visual trickery. The wood is actually cut as flat pieces in geometric forms and photographed on a flat surface, like a flat puzzle on a copy stand. So there is no three dimensional shape, just the illusion of depth created by using shadows, tones and color. Of course, it all comes together to make this image that looks like it has depth, when in fact it is flat. -YoPedro
