The artist is my son and is very talented. In high school he was accepted by Chicago Art Institute but couldn’t afford the tuition. He graduated from Fredonia State University with a Fine Art degree.
These pretty dragonflies are common with a range throughout the USA with the exception of the Dakotas and the Rocky Mountains. This is a female; the males have a lot of blue on their abdomens. They are insect-eaters and love mosquitoes so, if you see one, be glad.
This photo was taken July 20, 2011, in Montgomery County, PA.

I always wanted to try photography, and my retirement offered an opportunity to do just that. The natural world is my first love. Here you will find pictures of things both large (landscapes, for instance) and small (macro) that catch my eye. I hope the images serve as a window into the natural world many of you don't have the chance to see. In a sense, I'm trying to create a guided nature trail, sharing what information I have about the subject. I'm always grateful for new and better information and welcome all input. Learning is food for the mind and soul. Nothing is ever harmed in the picture-taking process, but some things that wander into our home (like spiders) are carefully removed from the house after they serve as "models"....

Perfect background for this little beauty, Mother nature. f/l

:>). Thanks so much. I do try to help the subject stand out - not always successful - LOL.

Unique capture, Carol! Love to see the dragonflies, and with the grasses and rock muted in the background, it makes it and the stalk it is on really stand out!
Carol Senske replied:
Thank you for the sweet words, Randy, and THANK YOU for the feature!
