I made this block print very quickly as a demonstration for a class of elementary students. In my 20 years as an Artist-in-Schools, I criss-crossed Wyoming, South Dakota, North Dakota, Idaho and Utah working with students of all ages. Of the many media I introduced them to, their favorite was the block printing. I used thin, soft linoleum for the youngsters, and they had a blast. One Lakota kid in the 5th grade at He Dog School on the Rosebud Reservation once said aloud at the end of the project, "This is the only thing we've ever done that everyone in the whole class has liked."

I have been an artist since I was knee high to a short-horned locust. My dad, Willoughby Senior (FAA) was a professional artist and writer and I have stepped in his shoes since I was born, though he drew horses better than I did when I was a kid. My family lived in a hand-hewn log cabin we built ourselves in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains and had no water or electricity. I love my life with my husband and family in Wyoming among the horses, gophers, deer, antelope, coyotes, red-tailed hawks, and the wild landscape. My work is driven by the land, animals, wild plants and birds I have come to know so well. Hummingbirds still try to get nectar from my upturned fingers.
