This image was taken on a side street on Bourbon Street in the New Orleans French Quarter in May 2009. This was one of the first times that I had taken the time to walk slowly through the Vieux Carre with my camera to take photographs of the many less noticeable details of this historic New Orleans district.
It was a Saturday afternoon, and not particularly busy, so it made sense that I would come across some of the more eccentric characters that look so much a part of the furniture in this part of the French Quarter.
Ive worked on this image, on and off, since May 2009. It was an opportunistic shot of a man sitting outside of the Famous Door bar on Bourbon Street in the New Orleans French Quarter. Adding the texture to this image, I think, served to add to the mystique of this particular early afternoon scene. Having said that, I have gone back and forth many many times to figure out what texture actually works best with this image. I think I have finally found one that works to my satisfaction- therefore, this is latest version of the image will hopefully remain the most up to date for some time!
