JITNY unloading vacationer cars here once ferried US Army troops and armored vehicles to beaches under assault in WW11. My USN duty some 25 years later was aboard LST 1126( Landing Ship Tank) transporting Marines to training exercises in peacetime Pacific. McCalls New Yorker cover hangs above my ship's plaque.

Steam engine locomotives have been a favorite since childhood in the '40s. "Train Race" hangs below a photo of a family member from the '20s in his conductor attire.

Artist's Description
One of three small studies of this scene, this sweet natured and soft-toned piece set the stage for the commissioned portrait that resulted from this sitting. The oldest boy holds the center, with the young behind literally and symbolically, the oldest teaching and leading, while leading the visual as well. The youngest of the three shows trepidation in his abstract expression as well as in the tension of body language while the middle age boy shows growth into curiosity and following. More than a study of boating, itโs a study in launching from boyhood, beyond.
