Although Bram Stokers 1897 Gothic novel, Dracula was not the first Vampire story it has certainly become the most influential. The historical Vlad Tepes himself was quite a formidable ruler capable of such cruelties that would make the Marquis De Sade cringe with horror. Brams brilliance was to merge this factual menacing ruler with the supernatural abilities he attributed to Vampires. His merging of the fictional Count Dracula (originally called Count Wampyr) with the historical Vlad the Impaler cemented the Vampire as not only an aristocrat but also a sexualized predator. While many have modified the Vampire and the Dracula character itself since, his novel is always the mirror to which all other stories are compared. Even if you cant see Vampires in mirrors. This Serialist portrait is assembled using a small selection of the thousands of Actors that have played Dracula on stage, TV and film (Max Schreck, Bela Lugosi, Christopher Lee, John Carradine, William Marshall aka: Blacula, Leslie Nielson, etc.). The border of this portrait is assembled using images of the historical Vlad the Impaler. At present Draculas legend has reached a level of consumption and depravity that rivals the greatest fictional fiend of all, the Devil himself.
