Sometimes you have to break rules to get results. I think it is OK as long as you do it responsibly and you don't affect others negatively.
On new Year's eve we went to Yerba Buena Island located in the San Francisco Bay between San Francisco and Oakland. We had to park on Treasure Island and hike in the dark in stealth mode through shrubs because the police and security guards kept the island off-limit during the New Years fireworks. I think it was worth while!
