Brigadier General Casimir Pulaski was born in Warsaw, Poland, in 1745 and emigrated to America at the invitation of Benjamin Franklin to fight in the Revolutionary War. He quickly distinguished himself in the war, most notably by saving George Washington's life in the Battle of Brandywine. In 1779, Pulaski was killed in the Battle of Savannah, and was buried nearby at sea. This statue of Pulaski was made by Kazimierz Chodzinski around 1905 and is at Freedom Plaza, three blocks from the White House on Pennsylvania Avenue, in Washington, DC.
I enjoy photography and writing, and sometimes think of myself as a photojournalist. If there is a story to be told with a photograph, I tell it. As a longtime resident of Washington, DC, a lot of my photographs are of this area, and I enjoy writing in the description something about the shot -- it could be a short statement about an equestrian statue in the middle of a park, or a more intimate tale of the mausoleum where Abraham Lincoln's son, Willie, was entombed for the remaining three years of Lincoln's presidency after the boy's death.
