Bright Red Cardinal - Shelton, Connecticut
Northern Cardinal aka Redbird, average life span is about 15 years. The bright red is sported by the male and the female is a pale brown/green with red highlights. The face is black and the bill is a reddish orange. A very popular backyard bird that feeds on insects, seeds,grains, fruit and will come to bird feeders. Both male and female sing, but it is said that the female sings louder. (No comments from the guys, please!!) :>) The cardinal is a non-migratory bird and is so well loved several states have made it their Official bird.
