Artist's Description
Bronze forceps found in the Thames, 19th-century artwork. This artwork was for a paper by British archaeologist Charles Roach Smith (1807-1890), an expert on Roman London and Romano-British artefacts. This ornately decorated object was found during dredging of the River Thames in 1840. Published in Volume 30 (1844) of 'Archaeologia', the journal of the Society of Antiquaries of London.
