Description
From tiny buds big arms do grow.
This Saguaro must be 65-75 years old for it to sprout an arm.
It does so to increase its chances of reproduction i.e. more flowers, more seeds.
The most arms ever seen on one Saguaro: 50!
The arms turn upright and can make the cactus up to 60 feet tall.
The Saguaro's spines create shade to help it with the desert's extreme heat .
The pleats allow it to expand when its roots guzzle fresh rainwater.
In one rainfall a Saguaro can take in 200 gallons of water.
And the waxy surface slows down the loss of that water.
