Artist's Description
I really didn't think I could get a good shot of a pair of butterflies I saw this morning in my succulent garden but I tried anyway using a Nikon D5100 using an 18 - 55 mm lens because I didn't think I could get very close to them with this lens. To be honest, I have never really even thought of taking a photo of a butterfly - everybody elses's seem so much better!! I hope someone will let me know what kind of butterfly this is, if you know. (and yes it is a cropped image.)
All I can say about the flowering bush is that I forgot it's name... I believe it's related to the other butterfly bush in my yard that was well established before I bought my home. I planted this butterfly bush at the edge of a new succulent garden I planted.
About Afroditi Katsikis
My primary medium is photography and lately have concentrated on nature and the environment as my major subjects. I am deeply concerned about the future health and beauty of this planet we live on and would like to preserve some of it's beauty before it's gone forever. I have a BFA Photography & Printmaking from ASU 1976 where I studied with Eric Kronengold, Bill Smith and Jack Stuler. Before transferring to ASU, I studied with Leslie Krimms, Paul Diamond at Buffalo State College - back in the days when there were no digital cameras and we shot and processed black and white film and printed it! Somehow I wrangled my way into a 'day' job that eventually led me away from my art and or pursuing a career as an artist or photographer...

Jetara, it is a Tiger Swallowtail. There is a variation that has white stripes it's still a Tiger Swallowtail, although when I was a kid we called Zebra Swallowtails.

Thanks for letting me know Jacquie!
