Description

I’ve always loved that both the East and West have dragon mythology, and how each culture developed their image and folklore. Each piece in the mythical creature series exists on the boundary line between worlds, between layers, between states of mind. While the monsters like the Siren and Kraken are pulling others into the darker, more sinister place beneath, the others, like the Pegafly and Phoenix, are a celebration of rising up against those forces. With the dragons, I wanted to turn that axis on its side and show more of a balance rather than a full-on confrontation.

Nature does most of the heavy lifting in my art. Each piece real, responsibly sourced butterfly wings and hand-cut silhouettes. Some pieces also utilize watercolor, dried leaves, dried flowers, or cigar wrappers. They are a testament to anyone going through a transformative period in their lives. They stand as a reminder that no matter what happens, we can choose to reframe it as something beautiful and worthy.
