Description
Le Vieux Village is a small village in the middle of Highway 190 east and west bound lanes in Opelousas, Louisiana. Many historic homes and businesses, and even a church were moved to the village. Some things were reconstructed to be historical in appearance such as this one. The stairs which go up to the attic were seen on many Acadian homes. These stairs were used by the single men and older boys of the family. Farming was important economically to the Acadiana area and the men and boys could wake early and stay late in the fields without waking the rest of the family by using the outdoor stairways to their attic living quaters. The village works as both museum and tourist information center.
