Canyon Diablo meteorite fragment. Fragment of an iron meteorite, a type of meteorite that originates from the core of protoplanets that were created and destroyed in the early history of the solar system. This sample is from the Canyon Diablo meteorite that impacted at Barringer Crater (Meteor Crater), Arizona, USA, around 50,000 years ago. The resulting crater measures over 165 metres deep, with a diameter of over 1.6 kilometres.
