Cape St. Mary's by Karen Cook - On the last weekend of winter in Nova Scotia and days after the last of several Nor'Easter storms, the waves were still crashing against the cliffs of Cape St. Mary in Nova Scotia. The air temperature was freezing! I could barely hold my camera still in my fingers that were stiff from the cold. I could taste the salt spray on my lips and as soon as I was safely back inside the warm vehicle, the camera lens was cleared of the salt spray as well.
St, Mary's Bay is a sub-basin of the Gulf of Maine and Cape St. Mary is one of the most western points in the province of Nova Scotia. On one side of the bay, the waters of Mavillette Beach Provincial Park were calmer, and the waves cresting slightly smaller than these. It was so interesting to discover these steep cliffs. We have visited Mavillette Beach Provincial Park countless times enjoying the miles of sandy beaches and never knew these cliffs existed less than a mile away.
