One of the oddities of this travel was that I was rarely hungry. I never felt the need to refuse breakfast, lunch or dinner, but I was never ravenous. I should have been, but I was not. It was not from stuffing myself at some previous meal. I do not know why this was the case. The group sat with the Hat at the base of the Church of St. Nicholas reading Latin and finally lapsing into just conversation. The ants that worked all over this hill were very unattractive so I avoided sitting on the ground. The church yard was walled on the north side and west sides, and open to the road on the east with a small field on the south. The church sat directly across the Via Appia from the Mausoleo di Cecilia Metella. St. Nicholas was part of a fortification in the 14th century which included the Tomb of Caecilia Metella and other structures. The pine trees were large in girth and tall, but they seemed more like tourists waiting like we were to move on. Even though the church yard was relatively sm...
My subjects are both natural and architectural. I am interested in textures and shapes and how light and shadow play on those objects often creating new ones. I use a Nikon D-800, and an iPhone 10s Max. I make every effort to compose in the camera and thus I crop infrequently. I use Lightroom, Photoshop & NIK to work with highlights & shadows which often brings out the elements in a photograph for which I have primary interest. I have no hesitation using any other tool if the results make the photograph work. My preference is to do nothing to a photograph presenting it as it was taken.
