Penny Meyers replied:

Mary Lou, thank you so much for your visit... I really appreciate your comments and v/f!!

Penny, I really like this photo! I voted for it over in the Tuesday contest, or is it Wednesday... anyway I like the peacefulness of the barn.. FV

Penny Meyers replied:

Kym, you are so kind! Thank you so much for your comment and for your votes here and in the contest, they are much appreciated!

Another winner! v

Penny Meyers replied:

Thanks again, Liz... I appreciate your visit!

Penny, this is a love photo and the branch with leaves just sets it off.....v

Penny Meyers replied:

Thanks so much, Janis!! Much appreciated!

Penny---I like the lighting in this one--and the contrast. A neat project. voted

Penny Meyers replied:

Thanks so much, Nava Jo. I really appreciate your support!

Penny, this is a stunning capture of this wonderfully aging homestead. I love how the golden-leaved tree limbs in the foreground contrast against these blue-gray weathered boards. I also enjoyed reading your interesting description. I will continue to check back to watch as this fine series progresses. F&V

Penny Meyers replied:

Doug, thank you so much for your kind comments and F/V! I started out just wanting a good shot of the old place while it was still standing for our neighbor, who is quite sentimental about his dad's place, but I have become more and more fascinated with it myself.

Oh, what stories those weakened walls could tell. That open door would really grab my interest here (keeping "safety first", though). The Captain's Homestead would be well-worth some additional views. Excellent find and capture, Penny!

Penny Meyers replied:

Gene, thanks so much for your kind words and inspiration!! I do struggle with that open door, as have been told by area residents they think some sort of wildlife is living inside, so have resisted getting too close. There will be more views to come!

beautiful/still/quiet. VF Kris

Penny Meyers replied:

That describes this place perfectly! Thanks so much, Kris!

Thank you, Norm, for your fave and post on PIF!

Thanks so much, Randy, for your comments, fave, and vote; they are really appreciated!

Love old buildings and love to see them captured and preserved in photos before their total demise. I really like how the yellow of the fall foliage creeps into view, just as age creeps up on the building. Lovely image, Penny! fave and vote

Very nice and who is captain ed? voting and promoting!

Penny Meyers replied:

Thank you so much for all of your wonderful comments, Kimberleigh!! Captain Ed was our friend's father, who used to own this old farmhouse, which is just down the road from us.

The image looks wonderful on this bag showing much more detail than I expected. I would like a bit more depth to the bag. It feels a bit shallow compared to the width.

Nice and large. Was hoping for an inside zipper pocket. Also some way to close the top, a zipper or latch.

Artist's Description

Captain Ed's Homestead in the fall of 2011. This will be an ongoing series of photos taken of a little old farmstead in West Central Minnesota. It is currently owned by a rural neighbor, and his dad grew up here. I don't know if Ed was actually a Captain of anything, other than his farm, but he was affectionately known as "Captain Ed." I am attempting to capture it in different seasons and different situations over time.

About Penny Meyers

I love to spend time outdoors, and doing it with a camera in my hand makes me so much more aware of everything around me. It's amazing the things you notice that you would otherwise walk right by without a glance. I am self-taught and try to learn a little more about photography every day, and every day it becomes more and more of a passion. I was honored to be on 'Under the Hat' Magazine's List of Fifty Fine Art Photographers to Watch in 2013 and to have my photo 'One of a Kind' featured in their March 2013 issue. If you are looking for a particular type of image and would prefer to see my photos organized in galleries by style, season, etc., just click on the "Collections" tab above the images. I hope you enjoy the shots I've...
