Ken Powers replied:

Thank you Bobby! This is one of my all-time favorites!

Beautiful work, Ken! Its connection to travel & memories is a real draw.

Ken Powers replied:

Thank you Bonnie! This is a favorite of mine from this series!

Wonderful piece of art. ;-)

Ken Powers replied:

Thank you Theresa! This has always been one of my favorites!

The blues, greens, and golds with the magic touch of your brush make this painting stand out. Reminds me of my first travel suitcase.

Ken Powers replied:

Thank you Marion! This is one of my favorite paintings. It is amazing that this style of latch is still in use on cases today!

Thanks Ken so much for your comment on my Radio Days painting. I really appreciate it. Someday you need to tell me how you manage to make things look like they have so much sunlight in them. Thanks again. Diane

Ken Powers replied:

Thank you Diane! Very nice of you! As for the light, I just over-accentuate the shadows and try to leave the whites of the paper thereby increasing the overall contrast of the painting.

I like. Very cool.;-)

Ken Powers replied:

Thanks Cathie! This is from an old trumpet case from the 1890's.

I love your choice of subject matter... these are brilliant and this is my favourite!

Ken, your work is so intimate - it pulls me in. Simply elegant. ...........Joe

Love your work, wish I could paint like you

I really love the colors in this piece. And I like everything Kip had to say - sure does bring back alot of memories of the push-button age.

Thanks for the compliment, I see you like to paint textures as well. Good job. Joni

Beautiful color handling of the pigments; and a familiar subject for many of us with our band instruments or suitcases or brief cases, sliding that button releasing the spring-loaded tab, and the satisfying ca-thunk as the tab flew back out of the way. Ahhh, the push-button age !! Maybe the inventor of that patent became a millionaire a hundred years ago, or whenever it was invented -- and was it even American, or maybe it was European -- I certainly grew up with them ! Nice work and good subject for, I suppose, an invention so ubiquitous we just don't notice them.

I'm actually not completely satisfied with the print. There are 2 areas I don't like. I can't tell if that is Call's chaps on the right side as you look at the picture & also his hand on the reigns look really strange to me & others who have seen it. It doesn't really look like a hand to me or anyone else that has seen it. I've been satisfied with most of the others I've ordered to decorate my new home but not this one.

What a perfect gift for my daughter's graduation from Fordham University! It is a beautifully rendered image of one of the most gorgeous buildings on her campus - Keating Hall. She was so touched and hung it up immediately. I was so pleased with the quality of the drawing and the frame. Thank you!

This order has been pending for over two months and has not been delivered. Nor has a refund been sent to my credit card. This was a mail and frame order where I sent an item to FineArtAmerica to be framed. After FedEx acknowledged delivery of my item for framing to FineArtAmerica, FineArtAmerica sat on my order for nearly a month. My requests to give me an update on the status of my order were ignored. Eventually it was claimed that my poster had been damaged in transit to FineArtAmerica, but the photos of the alleged damage were weird and disturbing. No offer to refund the damage was immediately sent despite the fact that I shipped the poster under a FineArtAmerica account using packaging provided by FineArtAmerica. Eventually the item was listed as shipped but no tracking number was provided and I have still not received it. I have also not been made whole for the movie poster I sent FineArtAmerica which has not been returned to me in either good or damaged condition. Very very unprofessional service.

Artist's Description

I don't know why I have always wanted to paint a case latch but I finally found a suitable candidate. This one is from a very old trumpet case so it immediately appealed to me. I painted this with Rublev 18th century reproduction watercolor paint on Arches 140# cold-pressed paper. The texture of the paper and these unique paints create some amazing textures in the piece. The original is 14"x10.25" in size.
