Ken Powers replied:

Thank you Bobby! This is one of my all-time favorites!

Beautiful work, Ken! Its connection to travel & memories is a real draw.

Ken Powers replied:

Thank you Bonnie! This is a favorite of mine from this series!

Wonderful piece of art. ;-)

Ken Powers replied:

Thank you Theresa! This has always been one of my favorites!

The blues, greens, and golds with the magic touch of your brush make this painting stand out. Reminds me of my first travel suitcase.

Ken Powers replied:

Thank you Marion! This is one of my favorite paintings. It is amazing that this style of latch is still in use on cases today!

Thanks Ken so much for your comment on my Radio Days painting. I really appreciate it. Someday you need to tell me how you manage to make things look like they have so much sunlight in them. Thanks again. Diane

Ken Powers replied:

Thank you Diane! Very nice of you! As for the light, I just over-accentuate the shadows and try to leave the whites of the paper thereby increasing the overall contrast of the painting.

I like. Very cool.;-)

Ken Powers replied:

Thanks Cathie! This is from an old trumpet case from the 1890's.

I love your choice of subject matter... these are brilliant and this is my favourite!

Ken, your work is so intimate - it pulls me in. Simply elegant. ...........Joe

Love your work, wish I could paint like you

I really love the colors in this piece. And I like everything Kip had to say - sure does bring back alot of memories of the push-button age.

Thanks for the compliment, I see you like to paint textures as well. Good job. Joni

Beautiful color handling of the pigments; and a familiar subject for many of us with our band instruments or suitcases or brief cases, sliding that button releasing the spring-loaded tab, and the satisfying ca-thunk as the tab flew back out of the way. Ahhh, the push-button age !! Maybe the inventor of that patent became a millionaire a hundred years ago, or whenever it was invented -- and was it even American, or maybe it was European -- I certainly grew up with them ! Nice work and good subject for, I suppose, an invention so ubiquitous we just don't notice them.

The quality of art is excellent and the printed item very good. What's not so good was the delivery. Fine Art America failed to include my address which meant that the posted item ended up lost in the post. Luckily my phone number had been printed ? so the local sorting office very gratuitously called me to arrange delivery. Not impressed with the posting.

I love the Vivaldi print. I sent it back to get a colorful mat added, because the way I chose the first time, it was too dark looking. Everyone else liked it, but I thought a black mat was too much. So it's still at Aaron Brothers right now.

The print gets a little muddled at larger sizes.

I loved the photo. It was mailed to a friend in Australia as a birthday present. He has not yet received it...it's on its way!! I hope he likes it and hangs it somewhere....like over his still!

The photo print was quite pricey for the size - however, it is a high quality reproduction.

I love this print! It captures the regal essence of Norte Dame.

Artist's Description

I don't know why I have always wanted to paint a case latch but I finally found a suitable candidate. This one is from a very old trumpet case so it immediately appealed to me. I painted this with Rublev 18th century reproduction watercolor paint on Arches 140# cold-pressed paper. The texture of the paper and these unique paints create some amazing textures in the piece. The original is 14"x10.25" in size.
