This was a sad chapter in the history of America. These poor Africans were shanghaied and brought to a new land and yet through their strength of spirit and nobility they left their mark here.

Artist's Description

©Seth F. Weaver, Sr. 02/05/12. Deep in the Old South the main force that made the economy work was a feudal society of slavery. People ripped from a world away and sold like cattle, sheep, and chicken. Beaten, worked, and raped by some masters who only valued them for what they could get out of them. Most slaves lived in housing the masters deemed not worthy of their livestock. Yet these noble people created strong family ties and never forgot their heritage or culture and contributed much to the white society that they touched. Many slave families before the Civil War were frequently broken up and sold when owners had bad seasons from their crop. Like the seeds they scattered in the fields these slaves were simply cast into the wind. Made from an antique 1864 sepia photograph. A Manipuography™/Compullage™ creation.
