I noted that the color came out differently on this size of bag, it is distinctly more purple. I happen to love that color also--the larger size has perfect color, exactly like the photo. I love both of my bags.

This tote bag is gorgeous! I saw a picture of it and had to have it. The colors are just beautiful. The size is better than I expected, because it's larger than I had envisioned it. It is practical and functional as well as beautiful. I'm very happy with this purchase.
Another in a subseries of Neo-Catism paintings featuring cats by candlelight. Not as wacky as my usual fare, but sometimes I just want to paint a cat or two. This one would make a particularly nice greeting card image, particularly for the Holiday season.
Like many artists you'll find here, I work in a variety of styles and genres, so you will find a broad spectrum of work in my galleries--something for everyone. It ranges from photorealism to stylized cubism, from romantic to silly, from the everyday to the strange, from the cute to the macabre. The bread-&-butter of my work has been what I call "Neo-Catism", an intentionally pretentious name for a satirical style of "modern" art centered around cats and their wacky behavior. These originally started out as a joke back in my college days, when I was lampooning the aesthetic ethics of the so-called "modern" artists in my classes who deliberately made crap--and ONLY crap--and walked around with their noses in the air as if they were on...

Baron, my life has been a huge cat collection -- but never would I think to put candles nearby...Now I understand the eyes -- fear and loathing in candleland! Love the softness and treatment.
Baron Dixon replied:
At the time I painted this, I was working on a series called "Cats and Candles" at the behest of my day-job boss at a candle and pottery factory where she also rescued cats as a sideline. Our company had a seasonal store in an upscale mall, and she got the idea of having some thematic paintings displayed in the store. This one was my favorite of the set. Now and then I enjoy the challenge of painting a scene in my mind that's entirely lit by candles and try to realistically depict the effect of such localized light sources on the elements about the scene.
Chrisann Ellis
Baron, This is So Adorable! Love those eyes and expressions
Baron Dixon replied:
Thank you, Chrisann! Cats are one of the most expressive animals in Nature, that's why they're so much fun to paint. Why some folks describe them as "mysterious" is beyond me. "Strange", yes, but "mysterious?" Nahhhh. Heh-heh!
Connie Valasco
Your cat are so expressive. How did you get them to sit still while you painted them. Not really!
Baron Dixon replied:
They're BURNED into my mind forever! Heh-heh! Sometimes I make quick sketches when I catch them doing something interesting, or sleeping in an interesting way. the rest is just caricatured observation after many decades of having cats. The old "I paint what I see" justification. ;-)
Karon DeVega
wonderful!
Baron Dixon replied:
Thanks, again, Karon! Traditionally, with these cat paintings, I normally would build the cat's fur with a thick impasto of paint for a 3-D effect, but recently I've been playing with a more impressionistic approach to the cats, and playing fast and loose with the brush strokes. Have you checked out "Get Yer Licks In" yet? I went totally Renoir with that one!
Alanna Hug-McAnnally
I have become an instant fan! :D Love your style and colors! :D
Baron Dixon replied:
Why, Thank you, Alanna! Stay tuned, because more are being prepped for upload.
