Description
Cattle Egret (Bubulcus ibis) is a species of heron found in tropics and subtropics. It is widespread being found in many regions of the world. This stocky heron measures about 20 inches in length and about 12 ounces in weight. They inhabit grasslands, farmlands, pastures, rice paddies, and wetlands. Very often they are dependent on large mammals such as buffalo, cattle, and other grazing mammals, and prey on the insects and small vertebrates that the large animals disturb, as well as on the animals' flies and ticks. In Africa, Cattle Egret forage behind Cape Buffalo, Zebras, Waterbucks, and Wildebeests.
This flock of fourty-plus Cattle Egrets standing on the bank of a pond was photographed at the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, in Tanzania on 1-17-2016. I used a Nikon D810 camera body and a Nikon 500mm f/4.0 VR2 lens to capture this image.
I am honored that my photograph was featured in the Fine Art America groups:

Thank you Steve! There were over 40 Cattle Egrets in this photo, and several more large groups fairly close by. More Cattle Egrets than I've ever seen!

Lovely environmental wildlife photography Morris, with very beautiful perspective. Likes + Favorites.
Morris Finkelstein replied:
Thank you Asbed. Although I usually tightly crop one or two birds or animals, I should make an effort to get more photos showing more of the habitat/environment. This is one of those photos with a broader image.
