This painting encapsulates the experience of being many possibilities at once. I painted this during a difficult breakup, as I tried to distinguish who I had become in this relationship different who I was before and different than who I was to become next. In the midst of chaos, anger, excitement, and confusion, thoughts running a treadmill to insanity, ideas going off like fireworks, I wondered, “Where do I belong now? Where do I fit in? Where and with whom do I want to live, work, play? How do I be a good partner and community member without compromising my self expression and ability to be self reliant?” Here’s to standing out. Here’s to releasing any semblance of a limited palette lifestyle. Here’s to letting all our colors come out to play.
