Description
Chasing Velvet Antlers 2 is a male mule deer called a buck, that still has the velvet on his antlers, which is also considered the fastest growing living tissue on earth. The antlers develope and play a main part in the mating process. This is one of a series of photographs taken of the animal as it ventures through the wilderness. Deer are very graceful animals, they leap high and run fast. It's coat is molting, which occurs twice each year, at the end of winter and again at the end of summer. Wildlife can be difficult to photograph because animals may become frightened or skittish if they sense people are near.
