Just what I wanted for a new iPhone. A special “Thank You” to artist ‘Serge Averbukh’ for the addition, at my request, to the design of my Navy rating, the lightening bolts (sparks as they are/were called) in the middle of the CPO insignia. I asked; he came through….When I use my phone, it brings back fond memories of my 20-year Navy career…. Thanks Serge….

Fits my phone perfectly and looks fantastic.
After visiting the Cherokee reservation in Oklahoma several years ago, I knew that I must paint the suffering and pain that occurred during the "trail of tears." My father was very proud of our Native American heritage and was looking forward to seeing this piece. Sadly, he died the day I had it framed, Tuesday, February 24, 2009. Oddly, it portrays the sorrow I feel with the loss of my father rather than the original idea for the painting. The paint drips down...just like my tears.
The painting includes watercolor, acrylic, india ink glue, bronze paint, feathers, yarn, leather and REAL stones...including turquoise, red jasper, picture jasper, quartz, and citrine. The painting is under glass for protection, and the yarn should fall into a better position over time.
Because this painting has so much meaning for me, I had not planned to offer it up for sale. But I think my dad would want me to sell it...for a nice sum...just because he thinks he is worth it!

As a child you could often find me quietly "painting by numbers" in my room. More often than not, my paintings were not exactly like those pictured on the box because I loved to change the numbers/colors around. Although I won awards for my artwork in elementary school I never really believed in my heart I was a real artist. I thought that "real artists" could draw anything from memory, and that was a gift I did not have. When reaching the upper grades we had to choose among our electives. Music...Art...or Dance Team? Although it broke my heart, I chose music and dance. You see, those areas received much more attention, and as an insecure young teenager that was one thing I strongly desired! However, deep...

Just beautiful and so moving. My wife is Cherokee, and though I have not yet been to The Trail of Tears, I have heard her stories of her visits. Thank you for sharing!
Laura Grisham replied:
If you ever get a chance to visit Tahlequah, OK it will open your eyes to the terrible things that our country did to our Native Americans,

What a touching and well written "Comment," Laura. It's a great companion -- and addition -- to the painting! I love this series. And it shows your abilities with a great variety of styles as well as interests -- rather I should say "fascinations." Thank you, with these and others for bringing this beauty and its -- your -- emotional backgrounds to each of us and to the world. Peace, etc., Bruce

THIS IS A VERY VERY EMOTIONAL WORK AND VERY THRILLING,SO GREAT WORK--ANAND
Laura Grisham replied:
You are correct...it IS a very emotional piece! Thank you for "seeing" it as I wished for it to be seen... Blessings, Laura

I am both HONORED and THRILLED you have chosen to feature this emotional piece on the "Tribal Groups" page. Although I am of Native American heritage, we have been unable to offer the proof needed to become official members of the Cherokee Nation. This painting expresses my sorrow in not only the horrendous treatment of the Cherokee during the "Trail of Tears", but also the sorrow I felt at the death of beloved father. He would be so proud. Blessings, Laura
