Description
Chevron barracuda. Huge school of chevron barracuda (Sphyraena sp.) in a cylindrical shape silhouetted against the Sun. These are gregarious fish which inhabit tropical seas in the western Pacific and Indian Oceans. They may reach a length of over a metre, and are fast and voracious predators. Their main prey is other fish, although squid are also taken. They are known to congregate in schools of thousands of individuals. They spend most of their time in quite deep water, down to depths of around 80 metres. Photographed off Sipadan Island, Malaysia.
