Description
The arch in the reflection is the Calder’s Flamingo. The Chicago gold leaf letters are over the main door into the Loop Post Office at 211 S Clark Street. What many don’t know about this location is that there was a courthouse where this building stands today and in 1917 Al Capone was convicted of tax evasion in that courthouse. In 1965 the old Chicago Courthouse and Post Office were torn down and replaced with this structure designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe started in 1966 and completed in 1973. Everywhere one looks in the Loop are reflections of history.
All proceeds will be donated to Chicago's Cornerstone Community Outreach in honor of photographer Richard Cleis, 1965-2021.
