As I grow older and my time serving in the U.S, Navy Submarine service gets further and further in my past, I my fond memories and my pride in service continually grows. The Silver Submarine Dolphins are in a prime space on my wall and remind me, and those that visit me, of my time on the USS Queenfish (SSN 651) and my pride in doing so. You never know when on a Facebook page about cats, you "meet" the artist of a beloved icon of Saint Gertrude of Nivelles, you have wanted for seven years!!! I have already found THE place to place Saint Gertrude, I can see her when in the kitchen. The quality of the icon is breath taking, so so precious. Thank you Miss Jennifer for this amazing icon!!! It delights me to pair the Fine Art America printed-on-wood reproduction of "Palo Verde Sunset" [top] with an original by Allegri, "Liquid Gold" which I recently purchased from her online gallery! The Fine Art America reproduction holds its own in tandem with the original. In fact at least one visitor thought "Palo Verde Sunset" was also an original, painted on wood.
Artist's Description
Matt Foley was a fictional motivational speaker from the sketch comedy program Saturday Night Live performed by the late Chris Farley. The character was created by Bob Odenkirk. Farley had performed the character in other comedy groups before being a cast member on Saturday Night Live.
Essentially, Foley is the antithesis of a good motivational speaker: abrasive, clumsy, and down on his luck. Farley named the character after one of his Marquette University rugby union team-mates of the same name who is currently in the US Army as a Roman Catholic Chaplain. The character was moderately popular in its time and is now considered some of Farley's best work and one of his best characters. Plans for a film version with David Spade in a supporting role were interrupted by Farley's unexpected death in 1997.
