Watercolor on Arches 300pd rough paper
I entered a holiday art show in my home town of Bowling Green, Kentucky sponsored by ArtWorks, a local art organization. The venue for this show was to be at a local church. I thought “well, the church is located next to Fountain Square Park, and the holidays so near, let’s paint the fountain as it looks lighted up for the holiday!” I drew the artwork onto Arches 300pd rough paper. The artwork was created using only Sepia and Quinacridone Deep Gold watercolors. The light bulbs took the longest to “paint” …I used a masking agent for the lights, and when it was time to soften the lights and add Quinacridone gold, I patiently added water to each bulb to make them softer. I wanted this art to show the lights just turning on during dusk, so you can see the buildings and trees surrounding Fountain Square with the feel of the holiday spirit in the air.

Your painting is beautiful and shows great skill with watercolor. I have worked in watercolors and find them the most challenging medium. I voted for you in the Christmas contest. To me, you are the winner. Wonderful painting!
