thank you so much: your comments are super wonderful! I'm flattered that you took the time to see all that you saw :-)

Hi, Marina! My, you paint such small ones. I haven't checked all, but those I have, as with this one, are the size of postcards! It must take a lot of patience and steadyness! Your texture of the water here reminds me of the sort of heat waves in Buon Convento which you made with gesso. This one has even less detail in it, I think. The cypresses look just like a group of people, don't they! But the ocean and the grassey ground are really super. I find it VERY difficult to make an expanse of water that does not "go up-hill." You are so successul at it here. But the real genius, I think is the grassey landscape. You make these gentle, smooth, and very natural little rolls so very subtly. And they look SO soft, though I think that they are dry and a bit rough lie down in. At least that's my memory. And the aroma in the hot air of summer, without the high humidity here in the eastern United States. But the several colors are just amazingly blended! I can tell that you take your time to make each of your paintings just right as you want it before you quit, deciding to your own satisfaction that it is finished. Am I right? Nice to be looking at your work again, Marina. Peace, etc., Bruce

Unfortunately this artwork remains rolled in the tube. The 36 x 35 enlargement I ordered had lost clarity and was too blurred to spend money on framing. It's a lovely piece - but stick with smaller sizes to retain clarity of original work.

Much for us to learn.

Artist's Description

"Cipressi a Monteaperti" (Monteaperti Cypresses) is part of my "Italy On My Mind" series. Monteaperti is a small village near Siena (famous for a battle in the year 1260, mentioned even in Dante's Inferno) and surrounded by the typical Tuscan hills. I spent several summer vacations traveling all over the Tuscany countryside and the coast. This piece has rich layers of color and texture. I can just smell that country air in a hot summer afternoon.

About Marina Owens

I am an Italian artist and (amateur) photographer now living in Virginia. Creating art is an opportunity for me to explore my own reactions to the subjects I choose to portray or capture. Subjects range from ordinary items of our everyday life, to creations of my fantasy or stored images from the past. I love to explore and experiment with my art. I don t like to feel restricted within a single style, medium, or theme. The common factor in all my works is the use of intense and brilliant color.
