The beach towel is really just for laying on inasmuch as it is too big and heavy to put around your body, which is just fine. The artwork in it is beautiful. I can't wait to use it.

Wow - I didn't realise it was going to be that big! It's a gift for a young member of the family - I think he'll be thrilled as he's a tractor fanatic at 6 years old. A practical gift too. The towel has a smoother upper side so it'll be more comfortable to sit on at the beach. It seems to have a thick absorbent power so no usual skinny beach towel.

While I still love large, expressive painting, Im increasingly drawn to creating realist work. I like getting lost in the details. I find that it quiets my brain and calms me. Theres something contemplative and meditative about creating realist images. My dad was a saxophone and clarinet player, and I have great memories of him practicing in his studio while I painted in mine.
Color and texture are hugely important in my work. Applied appropriately, they can actually elicit a visceral response from the viewer, says Emily Page, a California-born, Virginia-raised artist. Page began experimenting with different brushwork and palette knife work, scraping and overlaying, from the very beginning. At Wake Forest University in North Carolina, she honed her skills and graduated with honors with a BA in visual arts. I learned to work in a number of mediums, including sculpture and photography, but my passion has always been painting. I love working with oil paint simply for the richness of it. It just feels luxurious. And it affords such workability and durability. No other medium matches it. I enjoy branching...

Laurie, I wonder if that's a universal thing for a certain instrument maker. My dad played sax, too. Hope this brought back some happy memories for you!
