Originally numbered D212 this Class 40 British Rail Diesel was later numbered 40012, carrying the name 'AUREOL' for part of her main line career. 40012 was withdrawn from service on 8th February 1985, but thankfully reinstated to departmental traffic as 97407 on 20th May that year for use on the Crewe area remodelling scheme. The loco was finally withdrawn from BR service on 4th April 1986, and bought by the Class 40 Appeal in June 1988. The loco operates at The Midland Railway - Butterley, Derbyshire, U.K. After a substantial restoration, she was re-launched to the public in April 1992, with her original number D212 and the name 'AUREOL' .
