Coffee plant (Coffea arabica) with coffee beans (green). C.arabica accounts for most of the world production of coffee. It originated in Ethiopia. Its use spread to Arabia in the 15th century, and increasing trade led to its introduction to most tropical areas by the mid-18th century. The beans are roasted and ground, and an infusion made from the ground beans is drunk. This drink contains the stimulant drug caffeine.
