Two dominant abstract heads with boldly angular profiles appear to converge as if in deep conversation. The intriguing visages emerge together from a complex wood base structure with complimentary polished, angled geometric forms interacting with gnarled burl wood counterparts. The upper portion of the sculpture has been mounted in a dramatic offset in relationship to the bottom portion yet remains a balanced and stable composition. Viewing the rear areas of the sculpture reveals a remarkable series of heavily eroded burl wood formations which appear almost windswept with deep striations in the surfaces.
This remarkable abstract redwood sculpture has been created with numerous redwood burls which have been cut and carved with chain saws, shaped with grinders and hand crafted to further enhance the forms. The redwood components have been treated with a durable clear oil and hand rubbed, producing a matte finish which reveals all the natural colors and exotic grain patterns. Due to the nature of redwood burls, each sculpture is one of a kind and cannot be duplicated. All of the natural redwood used to create these sculptures has been reclaimed from the underground portions of fallen trees which have been victimized from winter storms, landslides or forest fires, therefor no living trees have been utilized.
