'Colorado Alpine View', by Lynn Cyrus / Cascade Colors. Looking towards Missouri Peak and Elkhead Pass, from the high altitude upper slopes of Belford Peak, near its summit, one can see layers upon layers of mountain peaks and ridge lines, extending towards the horizon. This Colorado landscape photograph was taken in early autumn, and features the high elevation alpine. This stretch of the Rocky Mountains lies between the mountain communities of Leadville and Buena Vista, in central Colorado. Missouri Mountain, Belford Peak, and Oxford Peak are all 14er (fourteener) mountains, mountains with an elevation of 14,000 feet or higher. All are popular hiking destinations.
