Loved this onesie. Actually loved it so much I contacted the designer and had a special request to see if he could change the color of the FJ40 to match a friend of mines actual truck and he was more than willing to do it. So I ordered another onesie.

Artist's Description

In the early 1930's John Wayne starred in three serials for Mascot. The final one was 1933's "The Three Musketeers," based very loosely on Alexander Dumas' novel. The company went on location and filmed part of it at the former Yuma Territorial Prison; which had been in use from 1876 to 1909, three years before Arizona became a state. The dreaded prison is referred to in several Westerns as hell on earth. "The Wild Bunch" has a flashback sequence where Robert Ryan (1909-1973) is given the lash. "Musketeers" also featured Robert Frazer (1891-1944) who had acted in the teens for Eclair American when the French firm had a Tucson studio, which ground out dozens of short films starring Frazer. The 12 episode serial was re-edited into a single feature and re-released in 1946 as "Desert Command." This vintage photo has the prison in the background on a hill. It is now operated as a state park. @2009 David Lee Guss Film homage, JW, Colorado River drawbridge, Yuma Territoria...

About David Lee Guss

David Lee Guss

I first became obsessed with photography and motion pictures while growing up in post WW2 Manila in the Philippine Islands in the late 1940's/early 1950's. Film noirs were a particular influence. But my first love remains the theater. I acted in numerous amateur productions from 1958 to 1978. In 1979 I earned a MA in drama from the University of Arizona; earlier getting a BA in English from the University of Minnesota, where I co-founded the first film society on campus and ran it for four years. While at the U of A, I studied with the master black and white photo essayist W. Eugene Smith (1918-1978) the last year of his life. I am the last person cited in Jim Hughes' definitive biography of Gene, as I wrote about attending his final...
